Ontario Minister of Energy Bob Chiarelli is joined by representatives from Hydro Ottawa and Moose Creek Energy for the official opening of new generators at the Lafleche landfill site
Energy from Waste – Minister throws the switch at Moose Creek Generator
Another green energy project is now connected to the grid, providing enough electricity to power 4,000 homes while eliminating over 100,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.
Moose Creek Energy has partnered with Hydro One, Hydro Ottawa, and Integrated Gas Recovery to establish a 4.2 MW landfill gas-to-energy generating plant at the Leflèche Eastern Ontario Waste Handling facility.
Landfill gas that is generated during the decomposition of organic solid waste at the landfill site is captured from wells throughout the extensive site. Once condensed and filtered, it is used as fuel for engines connected to electric generators. KAV was on hand to set up and operate a sound systems for the formal opening ceremony and press conference.
