When shooting a news piece with chief Pierre Voisine of Cornwall Fire Services, I got to interview TV host Bob Izumi of Bob Izumi’s Real Fishing Show. Following that interview, Bob pitched the idea that Cornwall and Lake St. Francis would be an ideal location for the Pan American Bass Championship. And that was the decision; Cornwall would host the prestigious fishing tournament in October 2019. Teams from Canada, Mexico, USA and First Nations braved the cold, breezy conditions to weigh-in some impressive catches. Brian Latimer and Mark Daniels Jr. of Team USA took gold in the individual two session competition with a total of 45.08 pounds.
KAV Productions was hired to film the tournament and as the videographer, I was on board Team Izumi’s boat for the two sessions. It was incredible to see Bob and his son Darren in action. Their banter was priceless, and their sports fishing expertise is world-class. Look out for an episode featuring tournament highlights shot in Cornwall and the fishing action on Lake St. Francis coming soon to Bob Izumi’s Real Fishing Show on Global TV, realfishing.com and possibly elsewhere.
